Localization engines
A localization engine is the part of the Studio that finds objects in the point cloud captured by the 3D sensor. It finds the pose of each object. Locator Studio reports this pose to the robot. Bin Picking Studio uses it to plan a collision-free trajectory for the robot. These pages apply to both Bin Picking Studio (BPS) and Locator Studio (LS).
Each engine needs its own software module. See Software modules.

Hybrid CAD + AI Localization is available on demand only. It is not a standard feature yet. To use it in your project, contact your sales representative.
The “Ideal for” column uses the descriptions from the Studio’s Create a new solution dialog. For more on choosing a solution type, see Solution types.
Engines
- Localization based on the 3D (CAD) model of the picked object.
- Settings of the neural network-based localization.
- Layer Localization (LS only)Localization of the top layer of a stack.
- Hybrid CAD + AI Localization (on demand only)Localization that combines the CAD and AI engines.
Auxiliary features
These are not engines on their own. They work together with an engine to improve the localization.
- Model features and feature alignment, so that the CAD engine finds the correct pose of nearly symmetrical objects.
- Merging scans from several viewpoints before the CAD localization runs.
- Limiting the localization to regions of interest in the scene.
